I would put my money on Kung Lao. I have to say that I'm getting tired of Liu Kang. His character hasn't really evolved.

Liu Kang had his time in the sun, but Kung Lao is the man now.

I am a big Kung Lao, fan but I wish he will go back to his "bad ass" persona like he had in MK2, MK3, MKG. His alternate costume in DA kept me playing with him though. Even though he IS a monk, I don't like they style for him, after seeing him in the older MKs.

kangs a better fighter but id like kung to win because he my favorite mk fighter.

Liu Kang would win. There's a reason he is the champion of MK, and not Kung Lao.

Liu Kang would win in this fight. Liu Kang is more disciplined and he has reached his potential. Kung Lao had lived in Liu Kang's shadow and he is not devoted to fighting as much as Liu Kang is.

Liu Kang has more of a reason to fight more than Kung Lao. Kung Lao was a monk that wanted peace after fighting Shao Kahn in MK3. Liu Kang is champion of Mortal Kombat and he has much to loose if he looses a fight.

Bo' Rai Cho had mentioned that Liu Kang was his greatest student even after having trained Kung Lao. I think Liu Kang is a more developed fighter than Kung Lao. Kung Lao would be a grand match for Liu Kang so if these two decided to fight each other, which I highly doubt, Liu Kang would win.

Going purely by achievements, Liu has beaten Goro (possibly twice), Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn (twice), and possibly Shinnok (a god) before being felled by Shang after a cheap shot by Quan Chi. Lao faked his own death, cheap shoted Goro, and got killed by Shang Tsung and Quan Chi whilst with the likes of Jax, Sonya, Cage, and the like. Liu's a much better fighter and should the two ever fight, Liu will almost assuredly be able to handle Lao.
